Madeline Bell began her career as a nurse at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and has been here for almost all of her 34-year career. She was named President and CEO in 2015 after serving as the Hospital’s Chief Operating Officer for eight years.
There’s something really special about working at a place that has a strong mission of taking care of children. That mission has been the same since 1855, and there are very few organizations around the world that can say they have had the same pure and true mission for 162 years.
— Madeline Bell, President and CEO
A graduate of Villanova University and the University of Pennsylvania, Madeline is a sought-after speaker on healthcare, leadership, child advocacy and other topics. She is the Chair of the Children’s Hospital Association and also serves on the boards of Comcast, the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics, and Solutions for Patient Safety. In 2017, she was named one of Modern Healthcare’s “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare.”
Madeline often speaks about the importance of philanthropy at CHOP and enjoys sharing stories about the many special moments our donors’ gifts have made possible. “I can see firsthand, with my own eyes, what every penny raised does. Maybe it’s a little gift for a child in isolation in their room. Maybe it’s stickers or crayons, or something bigger like a piece of equipment for a new building,” she says. “Every gift really touches the lives of the children who seek care here.”
