Physical Therapy

CHOP physical therapists use exercise and therapeutic play activities to address movement, coordination, balance, strength and endurance issues in children and young adults. We also work with your child’s medical team, caregivers, school and community to encourage your child to function independently.

At Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, we have a large staff of APTA-certified clinical specialists in cardiopulmonology, neurology, sports medicine and pediatrics. Our staff provide a variety of diagnostic and rehabilitation services, including:

  • Functional mobility training
  • Balance and gait retraining
  • Soft-tissue mobilization
  • Body mechanics education
  • Casting and splinting
  • Wheelchair safety and management
  • Neuromuscular re-education
  • Exercise programming
  • Family education and training
  • Assistance with pain relief and management
  • Instruction in safe ambulation

Physical therapy services are offered on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Our trained and licensed physical therapists work in acute and intensive care units, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient settings at CHOP's Main Campus and in many of our specialty diagnostic clinics and programs.

Therapy services are also available at several of our Specialty Care locations.
