Measles cases continue to rise

In November, the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a concerning report showing that rates of measles continue to rise throughout the world. While this increase began well before the COVID-19 pandemic, we are all aware that the pandemic has hampered routine vaccination programs. More than 200,000 deaths were attributed to measles in 2019, and as the world gets back to normal following the pandemic, we know that measles is one of the best viruses at finding “susceptibles,” so we need to work now to increase vaccine coverage or plan to be on the lookout for cases moving forward.
