About Sophia G. Holder
Throughout her 20-plus year career in healthcare finance, Sophia G. Holder has consistently demonstrated a passion for mentoring and developing the next generation of leaders, as well as serving and supporting the community. She thoughtfully guides the $4.5 billion annual budget of CHOP's health system and research institute to enable the best possible care for children and drive breakthroughs that have worldwide impact.
Before joining CHOP, Ms. Holder was Vice President of Finance at Boston Children’s Hospital, where she had oversight of core financial operations and employee engagement efforts. Ms. Holder also spent six years at the University of Vermont Medical Center, where she served as the Vice President of Finance, as well as the Interim Chief Financial Officer. Ms. Holder also served on the mayor-appointed Boston Private Industry Council, which seeks to dramatically increase the number of students (youth and adults) who earn the credentials necessary to secure career-oriented employment and achieve financial independence with opportunities to advance professionally.
Ms. Holder serves on the Strategic Advisory Board of the Innovate Capital Growth Fund, an SBIC fund whose mission is to provide the capital and operational expertise that enable minority- and women-owned businesses to grow. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the University City District, which is focused on improving economic vitality and quality of life in Philadelphia’s University City neighborhood, and is an active member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. In 2023, Ms. Holder was named a CFO of the Year by the Philadelphia Business Journal. In 2024, she was named one of Philadelphia’s Most Influential African Americans by the Philadelphia Tribune and a CFO to Know by Becker’s Healthcare.
Ms. Holder received her Bachelor of Arts with a minor in Business Administration from Boston University (BU). An internship at Coopers & Lybrand inspired her to take all required courses for an accounting concentration, which she completed prior to graduation from BU. Ms. Holder passed all sections of the CPA examination, with the start of her career in Public Accounting at Coopers & Lybrand.
