Patrick S. Pasquariello Service Award Recipient
2025 Winner is Caroline A. Pasquariello, MD, FAAP, FCPP

Caroline Pasquariello, M.D. is an attending anesthesiologist, Associate Clinical Director of perioperative services, and Chief Anesthesia Board Runner at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).
Dr. Pasquariello led the creation of the Anesthesia/Sedation Preoperative Care and Inpatient Preparation Clinical Pathway, a collaborative project that guides the safe preparation of inpatients for anesthesia. She established the Anesthesia division’s wellness program, which focuses on advocating for colleagues’ wellbeing in a high-acuity, high-responsibility environment. Most recently, she co-led an innovative initiative offering flu vaccines to children undergoing anesthesia or sedation for other routine procedures, removing a key barrier to access for many families. This past year, nearly 2,000 children receive the flu vaccine painlessly as a result.
Her connection to CHOP spans a lifetime, beginning with childhood memories of working for her father, Dr. Pat, at CHOP’s original Bainbridge Street location. After receiving her undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Pennsylvania, she completed an internship and residency in pediatrics at CHOP, followed by a residency in anesthesiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She returned to CHOP for fellowship training in Pediatric Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine. For ten years, she served the St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children community as an intensivist and anesthesiologist.
Whether leading process improvement efforts, mentoring colleagues, or organizing community outreach, Dr. Pasquariello is driven by a belief that meaningful change happens through collaboration. She is honored to carry forward the values her father lived by – devotion and dedication to patients, to colleagues, and to the community they serve.
Dr. Pasquariello and her husband Jim have two daughters, Julia, who is a nurse in CHOP’s Emergency Department, and Alexandra.
