If your child has a complex condition that impacts the way they move and control their body, it can be challenging for your whole family. We want you to know that at the Movement Disorders Program at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), their health is in the hands of an experienced team that's able to provide all the care they may need.

The Movement Disorders Program offers your child several distinct advantages:

• Timely, expert, comprehensive care. As one of the largest pediatric movement disorders programs in the country, we offer rapid patient evaluations and coordinate care seamlessly to ensure efficient and well-organized next steps. Our team has extensive experience in diagnosing and managing a wide range of movement disorders. We collaborate closely with other specialized clinics within CHOP to provide integrated, multidisciplinary care to meet the unique needs of each patient.
• Multidisciplinary clinic. The members of your child's care team will be selected based on your child's specific needs. It may include specialists from neurology, neurosurgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, among others. This team collaborates in clinic to evaluate your child and determine their needs and the most appropriate treatment for them. They will communicate with you at every step.
• Genetic testing. Many movement disorders have a genetic basis. Our dedicated genetic counselor streamlines the testing process, ensuring timely evaluation and efficient coordination of results and follow-up care.
• Individualized treatment. We work with patients and their families to create a personalized management plan that is uniquely tailored to each patient’s needs. We offer the full range of nonsurgical and surgical treatment options.
• Continuity of care. We partner with Penn Medicine. Their nationally recognized adult Movement Disorders Center helps us ensure a smooth transition from pediatric to adult care.
• Advanced therapies. Our program offers access to advanced treatments, including botulinum toxin injections and surgical interventions for movement disorders. We work in close collaboration with our neurosurgical and physical medicine and rehabilitation colleagues to ensure comprehensive care. For children requiring surgery, a dedicated care coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for families, providing guidance and support throughout the process. This coordinator works closely with the clinical team, helps navigate the treatment journey, assesses family needs, and communicates important updates and medical information.
