Clinical Informatics Fellowship

Clinical Informatics Fellowship

Overview

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and University of Pennsylvania (Penn) clinical informatics fellowship welcomes applicants from all ACGME primary clinical specialties. Two to three fellowship positions are awarded each year. Fellows experience the practice of clinical informatics in inpatient, ambulatory, emergency, and other care settings. During rotations, fellows work closely with distinguished faculty on projects related to many areas of informatics including, but not limited to: clinical decision support, data analytics/science, human-computer interaction, and artificial intelligence. As part of this collaborative program, fellows earn either a Certificate in Biomedical Informatics or a Master's degree in Biomedical Informatics and engage in mentored opportunities to pursue research and other scholarly activities. CHOP and Penn are committed to developing our future leaders of the healthcare industry. Upon successful completion of the program, the Clinical Informatics Fellow can expect to:

  • Master the Core Content set forth by the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) for the Subspecialty of Clinical Informatics.
  • Acquire a complete understanding of the different domains of informatics and how they apply to the practice within the field of Clinical Informatics.
  • Be prepared to successfully pass the board certification examination for the Subspecialty in Clinical Informatics.
  • Maintain skills and certification in their primary clinical specialty. The program will work with the fellow to define appropriate "moonlighting" opportunities.
