Sexual Abuse Clinical Pathway — Emergency Department

All Children/Adolescents < 18 yrs Presenting with Concern for Sexual Assault/Abuse

This pathway guides the care of the child/adolescent with suspected sexual assault, including:

  • Minimal facts interview by multidisciplinary team
  • Physical exam for extragenital injury and forensic evidence collection
  • Indications for collection of forensic evidence and chain of evidence
  • Indications for STI screening
  • Indications for STI prophylaxis/treatment recommendations
    • GC, chlamydia, trichomonas
    • Syphilis
    • HIV
  • Indications for emergency contraception
  • Reporting
    • Medical, Behavioral Health Follow-up
