Recommendations for Mandatory Reporting to Child Protective Services and Police
- A mandatory report obligation to Child Protective Services (CPS) and police arises when there is reasonable cause to suspect sexual abuse
- Decision to report to Childline and/or police is determined by the ED team
- SCAN team is available for consultation
- For individual patient circumstances that may not rise to the level of reporting, ED team can recommend that the guardian make a report to CPS. ED social worker can assist the guardian.
