Acute Bacterial Rhinosinusitis Clinical Pathway – Primary Care, Emergency Department and Inpatient
Goals
- Increase the proportion of children seen for sinusitis in primary care who receive recommended choice and duration of therapy by 50% within 6 mos after creation of the pathway, reducing any baseline disparities by race, ethnicity, language, and insurance status by at least 50%
- Clarify diagnostic criteria for acute bacterial rhinosinusitis
- Encourage observation for children who do not have severe/worsening symptoms

- Antibiotics prescribed for sinusitis
(# of children with sinusitis who are prescribed antibiotics) / (# of children with sinusitis) - Children prescribed narrow-spectrum antibiotics for sinusitis
(# of children with sinusitis who are prescribed amoxicillin) / (# of children with sinusitis) - Children prescribed short-duration antibiotics for sinusitis
(# of children with sinusitis prescribed ≤ 7 days of antibiotics) / (# of children with sinusitis)
