Anaphylaxis Clinical Pathway — Emergency Department
Admission Criteria
Consider admission in the following circumstances:
- Persistent symptoms > 4 hours
- Worsening symptoms
- History of severe or biphasic reaction
- History of severe asthma
- Required more than 1 dose of epinephrine
- Required a fluid bolus
- Poor follow up or access to ED
Determine Appropriate Service for Admission
Admission Service
- Allergy Service
- Allergy patient with stable VS
- Allergy consulted and accepted patient
- General Pediatrics, Adolescent, or EDECU
- Patient not known to Allergy
- Stable VS
- At discharge, recommend Allergy follow-up within 1 mo
- PICU
- Unstable VS
- Mental status concerns
- Upper, lower airway concerns
- Persistent circulatory concerns
- Allergy should be consulted
