Child/Adolescent with Concern for Anxiety or OCD

This pathway guides the screening, assessment and treatment of patients at risk for/with a diagnosis of Anxiety or OCD in an outpatient setting (behavioral health, primary care).

Consider Anxiety/ OCD Screening

Symptoms/Risk Factors Examples
  • Decline in function
    • Clinical
    • Behavioral
    • Emotional
  • School refusal
  • Academic decline
  • Social Isolation
  • Emotional / behavioral outbursts not expected
Somatic Symptoms
  • Physical complaints not associated with medical diagnosis
  • Medical w/u as indicated normal
Positive BH Screen
  • Other behavioral health screen such as the PHQ-9
Stressors
  • Acute or chronic stressors
    • Trauma, major life change, bullying
  • Multiple life challenges
    • Parent divorce, move, loss of family member
    • Chronic diagnosis, or change in freedom around medical needs.
Psychiatric history
  • Psychiatric diagnosis
  • Recent SI
  • Family history of anxiety

Exclusions

  • Management of anxiety or OCD symptoms in an inpatient setting
  • Patients < 6 years
