Risk Factors for Obesity and Cardiovascular Disease

History
  • Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease:
    • Obesity, especially in parent(s)
    • Hyperlipidemia inpatients, parents, siblings, and/or grandparents
    • Any of the following inpatient, parents, siblings, and/or grandparents:
      • Type 2 diabetes
      • Hypertension
      • Cardiovascular disease/early deaths from heart disease:
        • MI < 55 yrs
        • Stroke < 60 yrs
    • Risk Factors for Obesity:
      • Parental obesity has been found to be an independent risk factor for obesity in children. Parental obesity more than doubles the risk of adult obesity among both obese and non-obese children under 10 years of age (6). However, by adolescence, a child’s obesity, rather than the parents’ obesity, is the most important predictor of being obese as an adult.
