Croup Clinical Pathway — Emergency Department and Inpatient
Child with Croup
This pathway is for previously healthy children (ages 6 mos to 6 yrs) with the clinical presentation consistent with the diagnosis of croup, including:
- Barky cough
- Hoarse voice
- Stridor
- Mild to moderate WOB
Children may or may not have fever.
Exclusion Criteria
- Toxic appearance
- Complex medical co-morbidities
- Neuromuscular disease
- Known airway abnormalities
- Vocal cord paralysis
- Subglottic stenosis
- Tracheomalacia
- Laryngomalacia
- History of vascular ring or tracheoesophageal fistula
