Further Evaluation (Not Routinely Recommended)

Airway X-ray and/or Chest X-ray
  • Consider if:
    • Suspected foreign body – esophageal or airway
    • Deviation from expected clinical course
    • Severe disease, toxic appearance
Pertussis PCR
  • Consider if:
    • History of apnea and prolonged cough
    • Known exposure
    • Unimmunized or only partially immunized
    • Significant pertussis activity in the community
ENT Evaluation
  • Consider ENT Consult or referral if resolution of symptoms and:
    • History of intubation in past 6 mos
    • History of prolonged intubation
    • Recurrent croup
      • 2nd episode within 30 days
      • > 3 episodes in the last 12 mos
