Child with Suspected Developmental Delay/Intellectual Disability (DD/ID)

This pathway guides the evaluation of children with suspected global developmental delay or intellectual disability.

Children Eligible for Pathway

Global Developmental Delay
  • Delay in 2 or more of the following developmental domains
    • Gross motor
    • Fine motor
    • Speech/language
    • Social
    • Cognitive
Intellectual Disability
  • Lifelong condition, affects cognitive function and adaptive skills
  • Diagnosis established > 5 yrs old
  • Prevalence 1-3%
  • Etiologies
    • Environmental
    • Infectious
    • Traumatic
    • Toxins
    • Genetic (most common)
  • Review
    • Neuropsychological evaluation, IQ testing
    • School report (psychoeducational report)
    • Deficits in adaptive functioning

Exclusion Criteria

Children with a previously diagnosed genetic or metabolic disorder who are currently appropriately followed by a specialist.
