Febrile Infant — Infants with Bronchiolitis — Clinical Pathway: Emergency and Inpatient

Febrile Infant Clinical Pathway — Emergency Department and Inpatient

Infants with Bronchiolitis

  • The incidence of pyelonephritis is about 3-5% among febrile infants in the 2nd month of life with bronchiolitis or proven RSV; UA and urine culture should be obtained.
  • Well-appearing infants with bronchiolitis, influenza, or COVID may not require an LP or treatment with antimicrobials. Individual decision-making should be based on clinical appearance, number of IMs elevated, degree of IM elevation, etc. Admit as indicated for dehydration or respiratory distress.
