Dye Study
Indications
- Following the first replacement of surgically placed G- tube
- Difficulty in replacing G-tube
- Concern for significant trauma to tract when tube was dislodged
- If unable to aspirate gastric contents, discuss with attending regarding possible need for dye study
Procedure
Use ED G/GJ Tube Replacement Order Set
Omnipaque
- Contrast agent of choice
- Use undiluted
- Age appropriate dose is in order set
- Order as soon as need for dye study is identified
- Available in ED Pharmacy
Image sequence
- Single view abdomen
- Contrast injection by RN: See ED RN G-Tube Dye Study Procedure
- Repeat single view of abdomen
Radiology will confirm tube placement within 30 minutes.
