Dye Study

Indications

  • Following the first replacement of surgically placed G- tube
  • Difficulty in replacing G-tube
  • Concern for significant trauma to tract when tube was dislodged
  • If unable to aspirate gastric contents, discuss with attending regarding possible need for dye study

Procedure

Use ED G/GJ Tube Replacement Order Set

Omnipaque

  • Contrast agent of choice
  • Use undiluted
  • Age appropriate dose is in order set
  • Order as soon as need for dye study is identified
  • Available in ED Pharmacy

Image sequence

Radiology will confirm tube placement within 30 minutes.
