Perforation During Reduction

  • Perforation rates are very low, 1-4%
  • Failure to act quickly (e.g., decompression/OR) can have significant morbidity

Immediate for Next Steps

ED RN
  • Notifies ED Charge RN
  • Activate 4-CODE as clinically indicated by patient’s status
  • ED RN transfers patient to ED Resuscitation Rm for Care
  • ED Charge RN notifies ED Attending/FLOC on care team to respond to Resuscitation Room
Radiology Notifies Surgical fellow
Surgery
  • Surgical Resident/Resident Fellow responds to ED
  • If patient requires immediate OR, Surgery notifies OR
  • ED charge RN notifies OR RN
