Infection Precautions for Mpox

Exposure, Asymptomatic with Normal Physical Exam
  • Use standard cleaning procedures
  • If AGP performed in an asymptomatic, unexposed patient, provider should wear surgical mask and eye protection and room closures are not needed
Exposure + Prodrome without Rash
Lesions Present (+/- Rash)
  • Patient + family require surgical mask
  • If confirmed rash, expedite to single exam room
  • Door closed
  • Use negative pressure as available
  • Prior to cleaning, room should remain closed for:
    • Negative pressure rooms, 15 minutes
    • Buerger rooms, 30 minutes
    • Non pressurized rooms, 60 minutes
  • Use standard cleaning procedures
  • Clean room with hospital-approved disinfectant
