Initial Notification sent by Communication Specialists in Transport office:

Standby (to all staff)

*CHOPalert: Mass Casualty Incident Standby

There has been an incident that may result in a surge of patients. Standby for possible need to respond. Staff at home remain at home. Staff in the hospital remain beyond end of shift. Updates to follow.

MPE (to the MPE response staff only)

*CHOPalert: Multiple Patient Event

Prepare your unit, deliver materials to the ED, or report to the ED Command Post outside of the resuscitation room, as appropriate. A labor pool is NOT required. For questions, contact via Secure Chat PHL ED Charge Nurse.

MCI (to all staff)

*CHOPalert: Mass Casualty Incident Alert

Large patient influx expected. Follow department-specific MCI job aids. Remain beyond end of shift. Available ped residents and med/surg nurses report to labor pool in Atrium. Staff at home stand by.

If the initial alert was standby: Subsequent notifications sent by Emergency Preparedness on-call.

Standby changed to no response needed (all staff)

“Standby status update: Multiple Patient or Mass Casualty responses are not needed. Staff may leave at the end of their shifts and no ED support is needed for this event.”

Standby upgraded to MPE (all staff)

“Standby status update: This is a Multiple Patient Event alert. Prepare your unit, deliver materials to the ED per your MCI job aid, or report to the ED Command Post outside of the resuscitation room, as appropriate. Pediatric residents and med/surg nurses need NOT report to CHOP’s atrium to form a labor pool. For questions, contact via Secure Chat PHL ED Charge Nurse.”

Standby upgraded to MCI (all staff)

“Standby status update: This is a Mass Casualty Incident Alert. Large patient influx into ED expected. Follow steps in your department-specific MCI job aids. Remain beyond end of shift until further notice. All available pediatric residents and med/surg nurses should report to CHOP’s atrium to form a labor pool. IMT members stand by for opening of HCC. Staff at home should stand by for directions.”
