Symptoms Consistent with Ineffective Bowel Management

The following are symptoms that are consistent with an ineffective bowel-management program:

  • Bristol stool scale < 3
  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Decreased appetite
  • Stool accidents (> once each month)
  • Anal fissures, skin breakdown of buttocks
  • Rectal prolapse
  • Recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI)
  • Rectal bleeding
