Procedure Preparation and Monitoring

Before all procedures, check equipment function. Optimize child and provider positioning to ensure visibility of monitor, chest rise and ability to respond to airway emergencies.

Preparing for Procedure

S Suction Suction with a Yankauer attached
O Oxygen Oxygen is flowing to the bag with appropriate sized mask
A Airway adjuncts Airway box with oral/nasal airways, LMA and endotracheal tubes
P Personnel Includes bedside RN, attending physician, proceduralist and child life therapist
M Monitor Cardio-respiratory monitor with pulse ox and blood pressure
E End tidal CO2 Capnography

Complete a time out using the CHOP Emergency Department (ED) Safety Checklist.
