Infant Secondary Screening for Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD)

Lab Tests Abnormal Screen Results
Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) Discuss or evaluate origin of elevated ALP
Likely of bone origin
Parathyroid Hormone
  • > 100 pg/mL
    • > 65 consider repeating in 2 wks
25 OH Vitamin D < 20 ng/mL
X-ray Findings as Available Demineralization, osteopenia, fracture
Urine Calcium, Creatinine, and Phosphorus
Send serum calcium, creatinine, and phos within
24 hours of urine
Calculate TRP and Urine Calcium to Creatinine Ratio
