Sepsis Clinical Pathway — Emergency Department, Inpatient and PICU

ED EHR Sepsis and Hypotension Alerts and Huddles

Sepsis BPAs are data driven automated systems integrated within EHR to improve sepsis recognition. BPAs prompt assessments and bedside huddles with provider staff.

The ED utilizes a data-driven, two-stage vital signs based electronic alert aimed at improving sepsis recognition during the ED care course. An additional hypotension alert will fire to capture progression of illness.

ED 1st Stage Alert

1st stage alert appears if tachycardia or hypotension present.

RN documents concern for infection and any perfusion abnormality or high-risk condition. Mental status is pre-populated with current documentation and allows RN to update.

EPIC interprets new data inputs.
