Intracranial Pressure (ICP) Monitors

Three Monitoring Devices to Measure Intracranial Pressure

Device Location Value Display Benefits Barriers
Brain Tissue Oxygen Monitor (Licox blue)*Licox PbtO2 Monitor Procedure
  • Intraparenchymal fiber optic catheter
  • Licox with bolt placed via burr hole*
Continuous:
Catheter 1: ICP
Catheter 2:
  • Brain tissue oxygenation
  • (PbtO2) and Brain temperature
  • Catheter 1: Zeroed on insertion by Neurosurgery
  • Catheter 2: Using individual chip card in kit
  • CT-compatible (not MRI)
  • PbtO2 reading is not accurate for first hour after placement while machine calibrates
  • The chip card must remain with the specific patient and machine at all times
Intracranial Pressure Monitor (Camino)
Camino (bolt) Procedure
  • Intraparenchymal fiber optic catheter
Continuous:
  • ICP
  • Brain temperature
    (if desired)
  • Zeroed on insertion by Neurosurgery
  • CT-compatible (not MRI)
  • *May be contraindicated in patients with a thin skull
Externalized CSF Drainage System
AccuDrain™ External CSF Drainage System (Custom Setup) Procedure
  • Ventricle
ICP only:
  • ICP may only be transduced intermittently if actively draining CSF
  • Allows for CSF drainage
  • CT and MRI compatible (Must remove transducer, clamp with spring on string, and screw attachment to IV pole before MRI)
  • Appropriate for all ages
  • Frequent re-zeroing may be required
