Considerations for Possible Need for ICU Consult

Please note that all patients will not fall into these categories. The clinician should take into account the individual patient’s clinical status.

Considerations for ICU Admission

  • Supplemental oxygen > FiO2 35% or with moderate to severe work of breathing or an abnormal blood gas
  • Use of a nonrebreather mask to provide supplemental oxygen
  • Need for exchange transfusion/apheresis
  • Change in neurological status
  • Clinical signs of sepsis
