Somatic Symptom and Related Disorders (SSRD) Clinical Pathway — Emergency Department and Inpatient
Goals
- Standardize diagnosis of SSRDs. Develop shared mental model and language of SSRD across the health care system.
- Reduce unnecessary medical interventions and hospital admissions for SSRD.
- Triage patients with SSRDs to appropriate level of care (ED, outpatient, inpatient).
- Utilize multi-disciplinary care.
- Prioritize timely behavioral and psychosocial health evaluation and referrals.
- Increase percentage of patients receiving standardized and validated education about SSRDs.
Metrics
- Reduce number of unnecessary and potentially harmful diagnostic tests.
- Reduce number of duplicate studies already obtained by prior visits, whether within or outside of CHOP.
- Decrease percentage of patients with suspected SSRD who are admitted to the hospital.
- Decrease Number of ED visits and readmissions following discharge for patients with SSRD diagnosis
- Decrease length of hospitalization for patients with SSRDs
- Increase rate of psychology/mental health referrals
- Reduce time to Social Work and Psychiatry evaluation for admitted patients
- Increase rate of accurate SSRD diagnosis documentation
