Discharge Instructions

Activity
  • No bending, lifting > 5 lbs, twisting of spine
  • No submersion of incision until Steri-Strips off and healed
  • Forward-facing shower starts post-op day 7
Concerning Symptoms
Reasons to call or return to the hospital
  • Fever, incisional concerns (redness, drainage, swelling)
  • Pain not responding to medications
  • Emesis and not tolerating diet
Medications

  • Oxycodone, PO
    • 0.05-0.1 mg/kg/dose q4-6 hr as needed
      25-30 doses
  • Diazepam, PO
    • 0.05-0.1 mg/kg/dose q6-8 hr as needed
      20 doses
  • Acetaminophen, PO
    • 12-15 mg/kg q4-6 hr as needed
      100 tabs or liquid bottle
  • Ibuprofen, PO
    • 10 mg/kg q6h-8 hr as needed
      50 tabs or liquid bottle
  • Miralax®, PO
    • 17 g daily
      10 doses
  • Senna, PO
    • 17.2 mg nightly
      10 doses
Follow-up
  • Family will be contacted by ortho APP within 72 hrs of discharge
  • Return to ortho clinic in approximately 3-6 weeks (215-590-1527)
