Septic Arthritis Clinical Pathway — Emergency Department
Child with Suspected Septic Arthritis
This pathway is to be used for children, who have no known trauma, who exhibit one or more of the following symptoms:
- Significant joint pain with or without swelling
- Significant limp or refusal to bear weight
- Fever (absence of fever does not rule out septic arthritis or osteomyelitis)
Exclusion Criteria
- Immunocompromised state
- Known Rheumatologic Disease
- Recent orthopedic procedure involving affected joint
- Prosthesis
- Penetrating injuries
- Age < 56 days
