Toxic Ingestion Clinical Pathway — Emergency Department, ICU and Inpatient

Discharge Criteria

The following medical, social, and behavioral health criteria should be met prior to a child’s discharge home.

  • Presentation of non-toxic ingestion, asymptomatic toxic ingestion, or symptomatic ingestion with minimal harm and substance effects that are improving
  • No pharmacologic concerns for enduring or future substance effects
    • The Poison Control Center can assist in determining the risk of ongoing or future substance effects
  • No social concerns identified or social concerns addressed via a Social Work consultation
  • No behavioral health concerns, or behavioral health consult completed, and child deemed safe for discharge
