Trauma Activation Level

This pathway provides guidance for the care of all patients who have sustained a traumatic injury with risk to life or limb.

Patients with recognized life-threatening injuries are classified as Trauma Level 1 or Trauma Level 2.

Initial evaluation is done by a multidisciplinary team in the Emergency Department (ED) Resuscitation Room.

Trauma Activation Communication

  • Discuss care with referring clinician if applicable
  • Notify Trauma Team
  • Contact Trauma Fellow/Attending for unstable patients and with any decision about referring patient to another facility
  • Refer to EPIC On Call Directory for contact numbers for all surgical, medical services
