Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Clinical Pathway — All Settings

Goals

  • Standardize recommendations for screening febrile children for UTI
  • Use a bag to collect urine in children 6 mos – 6 years to decrease the need for catheterization
  • Indications for empiric treatment
  • Antibiotics recommended for empiric treatment

Metrics

  • Rate of bag collection method to screen children 2 months to 6 years
  • Number of patients spared catheterization
  • Percent of patients meeting UA criteria for empiric treatment, treated with cephalexin
  • Chart review of a cohort of febrile children 6 months to 2 years to evaluate appropriateness of UA screening
  • Monitor time to obtain bagged urine specimen (Room arrival to urine POC completed)
