What are disorders of amino acid absorption?

Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Free amino acids are absorbed by active and specific transporters into the gut lining. Disorders of amino acid absorption occur when there are defects in these transporters.

At The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, children with disorders of amino acid absorption are managed by doctors in the Division of Gastroenterology (GI), Hepatology and Nutrition.
