Course overview

This one-day Helping Babies Breathe (HBB) Master Trainer Course, 2nd edition, is designed to provide participants with neonatal resuscitation skills and prepare them to train others in the initial steps of neonatal resuscitation. The HBB curriculum, which focuses on The Golden Minute after birth, is specifically designed for low-resource environments and has been shown to significantly reduce neonatal mortality and fresh stillbirths. HBB is an initiative of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) in collaboration with other global health organizations. In May 2023, the AAP and the World Health Organization released an updated version of HBB, Essential Newborn Care-1 (ENC-1) which focuses on essential newborn care from birth through the first 60 minutes of life. We will discuss the key elements of this transition so that participants will have the knowledge and tools to teach the updated course once course materials are widely available.
