French Toast Sticks

Looking for a healthier version of a kids’ favorite? Give these French toast sticks a try.
Ingredients
4 egg whites
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
4 slices whole wheat bread
Directions
- In a small bowl, combine the egg whites, nutmeg, vanilla and cinnamon. Whisk to mix evenly.
- Cut bread into thirds to make “sticks”. Place sticks into shallow dish and cover with egg mixture. Make sure that each bread stick is completely covered by the mixture. Set aside for 5 minutes.
- Place a nonstick griddle or frying pan over medium heat. When a drop of water sizzles as it hits the pan, add the bread. Cook until both sides are golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes on each side.
