CHOP Newborn & Pediatric Care at Chester County Hospital is a pediatric service developed to provide high-quality inpatient, consultative and emergency care to children in Chester County, PA.
The inpatient pediatricians provide around-the-clock medical care to patients referred by their primary pediatrician or family practitioner. The 18-bed unit also has a two-bed, intensive care unit to better meet the critical care needs of its patients.
The physician hotline, 610-431-5000, beeper 251, provides immediate access to a CHOP pediatrician to facilitate admissions, referrals or consultations.
CHOP Newborn & Pediatric Care at Chester County Hospital encourages primary care providers to have an active role in their patient's management during hospitalization.
All patients are referred back to the primary care provider for follow-up, with frequent telephone contact during the hospital stay and summary after discharge. Pediatric subspecialists available for inpatient consultation include pediatric gastroenterologists, pediatric cardiologists, pediatric neurologists and neonatologists.
Chester County Hospital's 12-bed, Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has pediatric cardiology and ophthalmology services on-site and can administer mechanical ventilation.
Perinatology services are available around the clock, with Level II ultrasounds, fetal echocardiograms, chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and genetic counseling. The NICU team includes neonatologists, perinatologists, obstetricians, pediatricians and anesthesiologists, as well as neonatal nurse practitioners, registered nurses and respiratory therapists. The in-house NNP or neonatologist provides 24-hour coverage. Transports are accepted from surrounding hospitals for sick newborns, as well as those convalescing before discharge.
A separate breastfeeding room is available in the unit. The NICU also includes a parent participation room, available for overnight stay just before discharge to bond and learn baby care. The unit features combined labor, delivery, and recovery rooms; and childbirth and sibling education programs.
