CHOP hosts Global Advances in Celiac Disease conference

The Center for Celiac Disease at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) partnered with Beyond Celiac, a patient advocacy and research organization, to co-host the 2024 Research Summit: Global Advancements in Celiac Disease on Oct. 26, 2024, at CHOP’s Roberts Center for Pediatric Research. 

The day-long event drew clinicians, researchers, patients and families together to review groundbreaking celiac disease research, participate in expert panels and learn about the latest diagnostic advances and best practices for supporting a gluten-free lifestyle. 

Lisa Fahey, MD, Co-director of the Celiac Center at CHOP, and Kara Feigenbaum, RN, LDN, clinical dietitian with CHOP’s Clinical Nutrition Program, were among the speakers for the day. They presented “The Challenges of Maintaining a Gluten-Free Diet,” along with Shayna Skelley Coburn, PhD, from Children’s National Hospital.  

Other sessions and panels included: 

  • Predictors of Disease, Biomarkers and Diagnosis
  • Disease Models
  • Celiac Disease and the Microbiome
  • Advances in Therapeutics and Clinical Trials
  • Advances in Disease Predictors and the Influence of the Microbiomes
  • Triggers of Inflammation and Models to Understand
