CHOP President and CEO Madeline Bell Receives 2023 William Penn Award

On April 11, Madeline Bell, President and CEO of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, received the 2023 William Penn Award from The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia.

The highest honor bestowed upon a business executive in Greater Philadelphia, the award recognizes the recipient’s outstanding contributions toward the betterment of the region, their professional accomplishments, and their commitment to charity and to the community.

Tim Buckley, Chairman and CEO of Vanguard and former chair of CHOP’s Board of Trustees, presented the award to Bell at a gala event at the Please Touch Museum.

In her remarks, Bell said: “I am so grateful that I have had the opportunity to stand on the platform that was built by the 170-year reputation of CHOP.  It is a privilege to be part of the hospital’s legacy, and to work with the brilliant and talented people who are making breakthroughs every single day for children and families.”

The William Penn Award has been presented annually since 1949. Past recipients include Brian L. Roberts, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Comcast Corporation; John A. Fry, President, Drexel University; Denis P. O’Brien, former Senior Executive Vice President, Exelon Corporation; and Dr. Amy Gutmann, former President, University of Pennsylvania.
