In the Division of Urology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), we are committed to providing a comprehensive and collaborative approach to the treatment of urologic conditions. A crucial component of our urology treatment is the integration of psychological services, which is essential in addressing the multifaceted nature of urologic health.
Dr. Anna Cruz and Dr. Kerry Gagnon are our two Urology psychologists. Dr. Cruz and Dr. Gagnon work closely with our clinical team to offer specialized support to children and families, enhancing daily functioning and overall well-being in the context of urologic conditions. Their approach addresses a range of conditions, including bladder function, bladder exstrophy, surgical reconstruction, kidney stones, spina bifida, and differences of sex development.
Families can meet with Dr. Cruz and Dr. Gagnon both in-person and virtually. They can help with a variety of concerns, including:
- Behavioral concerns that are barriers to toilet training
- Preparation for surgery or procedures
- Anxiety surrounding medical treatment, medication or procedures
- Depression and anxiety due to chronic urologic conditions
- Adherence to medical regimen
- Adjustment to a new diagnosis
- Coping with chronic pain
- Parenting challenges and barriers caused by a urology diagnosis
