Madeline Bell, President and CEO of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), has been honored with the prestigious CEO of the Year Award by Press Ganey, a company that helps healthcare providers and health plans transform the Human Experience. This recognition highlights Bell's unwavering commitment to providing high-quality care to children and families.

Press Ganey's CEO of the Year Award is presented annually to a current or former Chief Executive Officer for a health system or health plan who exemplifies exceptional leadership and passion and strives for innovation to improve the Human Experience.

Bell, who began her career at CHOP as a nurse in 1983, has demonstrated empathetic and integral leadership throughout her tenure, inspiring the more than 28,000 workforce members in CHOP’s $4.1-billion health system and research institute to make breakthroughs that have worldwide impact.

Since assuming the role of President and CEO in 2015, she has spearheaded transformative initiatives, including the development of a leading pediatric ambulatory care network, the expansion of CHOP’s Philadelphia Campus and a second hospital campus in King of Prussia, Pa., and investment of more than $100 million in behavioral health facilities in West Philadelphia. Bell's contributions also extend to nationally recognized clinical care programs and innovative community programs, and she has secured many philanthropic gifts to advance CHOP’s mission.

In addition to her role at CHOP, Bell serves on the boards of Comcast-NBCUniversal and the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics and on the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce’s executive committee. She is a former Chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia’s Board of Directors and a fellow of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia. Bell is also an adviser to international hospitals and a frequent lecturer on children’s healthcare and women in leadership.

“Madeline's dedication to innovation in the healthcare industry, and pediatric medicine, has transformed the industry,” said Patrick Ryan, Chairman and CEO of Press Ganey.

“Every day at CHOP, our amazing team members demonstrate our core values of integrity, compassion, accountability, respect and excellence as they work together to care for our patients and families,” Bell said. “Their commitment to transforming the Human Experience – and to elevating the CHOP experience – is truly inspiring. I am grateful to them for all that they do, and to Press Ganey for this recognition.”
