medicaid and CHIP Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is helping the state of Pennsylvania raise awareness about changes that have been implemented in Medical Assistance (Medicaid/MA) or CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program). These changes mean that if your family uses one of these plans, you will need to complete a renewal when it is due to continue to access these Pennsylvania health insurance programs.

During the pandemic, people generally did not need to complete a renewal application in order to keep their MA/CHIP coverage. As of April 1, 2023, everyone with MA or CHIP coverage needs to submit a renewal when it is due to see if they are still eligible for coverage.

When it is time for you to renew your coverage, you will receive a renewal packet in the mail from the state of Pennsylvania. You will need to complete the form by confirming your language preference, supplying all requested information, and signing and dating it. Return the form to your local County Assistance Office by the due date listed. You can return it in one of the following ways: online, phone, mail, fax or in person. The packet will contain complete instructions on how to return it.

If you have not yet reached your renewal due date, what should you do right now?

To make sure this process goes smoothly, make sure your contact information is up to date by using the myCOMPASS PA mobile app or logging in to your COMPASS account on this page.

You can also sign up for text alerts so the state can send you updates on your renewal as quickly as possible.

What should you do when your renewal is due?

When you receive your packet in the mail, you will be able to complete your renewal online from the state’s COMPASS website, by using the myCOMPASS PA mobile app, or over the phone at 1-866-550-4355. You can also bring the completed form to your County Assistance Office on the date and time of a scheduled interview or mail the form to your caseworker.
