Pain Management
- Opioid and benzodiazepine infusions as clinically indicated
- Transition to enteral medications once tolerating enteral feedings/extubated
- SBS and pain scores every 4 hours and 30 minutes after PRN doses – See Pain Policy, See SBS Scores
Neuropathic pain
- Consider Pain Management Service Consult
- Treatment
- Antidepressant, antiepileptic, standard analgesic medications are often used in combination
- These medications may include:
- Gabapentin
- Trazodone or Amitriptyline
- Opiates
