Behavioral Concerns, Child Undergoing EEG Monitoring Clinical Pathway — Inpatient and Outpatient Specialty Care

Goals

Identify Patients with Behavioral Health Concerns:

All patients scheduled for routine EEGs, ambulatory EEGs, or EMU admission will receive behavioral screening.

Patients with major behavior concerns likely to impact care will receive additional assessment and planning:

  • Outpatients: Established by outpatient neurology clinician.
  • Inpatient: Guided by outpatient neurology clinician, augmented by Child Life Specialist intake, and further developed by the inpatient care team

Team Communication

  • Inpatient: Care Plan created by Child Life Specialist.
  • Inpatient: EEG order contains agitation medication recommendations if needed.

Behavioral Health Consultation

  • Often indicated for patients in major concern(s) category.
  • As clinically indicated for other patients.

Metrics

  • Percent of patients with behavioral health concerns who undergo successful diagnostic EEG or EMU admission.
  • Percent of patients with major problems identified with pre-admission plan created by Child Life Specialist.
