Admitted Child with History of Anaphylaxis

Anaphylaxis is an acute, rapidly progressive, life-threatening systemic reaction caused by an immune mediated response to exposure to a specific allergen (e.g., food, medication, insect sting/bite, etc.) causing systemic vasodilation, smooth muscle contraction, and mucous secretions. Reactions usually occur within minutes (although can be seconds) to a few hours.
