Follow-up Appointments

BWS Clinic
Pediatrician
  • Familiar with Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome
  • Schedule appointment for 2-3 days following discharge
Required Subspecialty Follow-up
  • Tumor Screening
    • Can be followed by Oncology/Cancer Predisposition, Pediatrician, Genetics
    • Determine which team will follow tumor screening prior to discharge
      • Obtain AFP/abdominal ultrasound prior to discharge, continue every 3 months until 4th birthday
      • Subsequently, renal ultrasounds every 3 months until 7th birthday
    • Obtain specific instructions and follow up required from each specialty
      • General Pediatrics
      • General Surgery
      • Plastic Surgery
      • Pulmonology
      • Endocrinology
      • Feeding Team
      • Early Intervention Assessment
    • Make complex scheduling referral to assist in appointment scheduling for all necessary subspecialty follow-up appointments.
Subspecialty Follow-up Intervals
  • Each service will determine their own follow-up interval
  • Make all appointments prior to infant's discharge (refer through complex scheduling)
  • Provide family with contact information for all specialties
Follow-up Intervals for Out-of-area Patients
  • Determine follow-up interval from:
    • Consult team/notes
    • Recommendations for consultants in patient’s home area
  • Verify that the family has made all recommended follow-up appointments based prior to discharge
  • Assist the family as necessary to schedule these appointments
