Upper Gastrointestinal Bleed Clinical Pathway — Emergency Department, ICU and Inpatient
Upper Gastrointestinal Bleed Clinical Pathway — Emergency Department, ICU and Inpatient
Goals
- Standardize the management of children that present with suspected upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB)
- Decrease morbidity and mortality related to UGIB
- Risk stratify children that may benefit from endoscopic intervention and identify etiology of UGIB
Metrics
- Time from ED arrival to assessment of hemodynamic status
- Time from ED arrival to reassessment of hemodynamic status after resuscitation with crystalloid or blood products
- Length of hospital stay:
- LOS for all children admitted with UGIB
- Time from initial encounter to intervention for children meeting clinical and laboratory threshold (endoscopy, interventional radiology, and surgery)
- Complications following UGIB and rate of rebleed
