Suspected Measles Exposure or Infection Clinical Pathway — ED, Outpatient Specialty and Primary Care

Room Closure Requirements

Airborne Infection Isolation Room, AIIR
  • Negative Pressure + engineering controls
  • No additional exam room closure
  • Keep door closed during patient visit
  • Close exam room for 30 mins after patient discharge
Non-AIIR Rooms
Standard Pressure
  • Ideally for patients with no symptoms receiving immunoglobulin
  • No additional exam room closures
  • Keep door closed during patient visit
  • Close exam room for 2 hrs after patient discharge
  • Follow normal process for managing airborne patients in non-AIIR room
Measles Symptoms Present
  • Prioritize use of AIIR rooms
  • If non-AIIR room
  • Move patients in adjacent rooms to other exam rooms as possible
  • Adjacent rooms:
    • Close during care of PUI (Person Under Investigation)
    • Keep exam door closed
    • Close 2 hrs after PUI discharge
  • Close exam room of PUI for 2 hrs after discharge
