Post-operative Day 3

  • Goals Through Discharge
    • Maintain PO analgesia
    • Continued mobility, PT/OT as indicated
    • Discharge Preparation
Pain Management
  • Oral Analgesia
    • Acetaminophen: q4hr PRN for mild pain
    • Oxycodone: q4hr PRN for moderate pain
    • Diazepam: q6hr PRN for muscle spasticity
  • IV Analgesia
    • Hydromorphone: q3hr PRN for breakthrough pain
    • Nalbuphine: q4hr PRN for itching
  • Ondansetron IV q8hr PRN for nausea/vomiting
Activity/PT
  • PT and OT daily
    • Walk to bathroom to complete grooming while standing at sink
    • Complete tub transfer, if needed, using adaptive equipment
  • Ambulate and OOB to chair TID
  • Ascend and descend one flight of stairs if not completed on POD2
  • Use CPM 0-50° on 2 hrs off 2 hrs while awake when indicated
  • PT/OT Discharge Criteria
GI Continue famotidine, bowel regimen as ordered
Nutrition Regular diet as tolerated
Tubes/Drains Reinforce incision/drain site dressings as needed
Respiratory Incentive spirometry q2hrs while awake
Other Medications
  • Continue
    • Aspirin and cholecalciferol as ordered
    • Indomethacin when indicated
Discharge Planning
  • Finalize discharge planning
  • Provide prescriptions for family
  • Discharge to home when goals are met
