Periacetabular Osteotomy (PAO) Clinical Pathway — Inpatient

Discharge Instructions

Activity
  • Hip ROM Precautions
  • TTWB on affected extremity
  • Daily compliance to provided home exercise program
  • Continue OOB to chair and ambulation at least TID
  • CPM 0-50° if indicated
  • Surgical dressings removed and shower post-op day 5, maintain Steri-Strips
Medications
  • Oxycodone: q4-6hr PRN
  • Diazepam: q6-8hr PRN
  • Acetaminophen: q4-6hr PRN
  • Ibuprofen: q6h-8hr PRN
  • Aspirin: 325 mg daily x4 wks
  • Cholecalciferol: 50 mcg daily x6 wks
  • Famotidine: 20 mg nightly
  • Polyethylene glycol: 17 g daily
  • Senna: 17.2 mg nightly
  • Indomethacin, if indicated: 25 mg TID x5 days
Concerning Symptoms
  • Fever
  • Incisional concerns
    • Erythema, drainage, swelling
  • Pain not responsive to medications
  • Return to hospital or call Orthopedics Clinic:
    • Business hours: 215-290-1527
    • Off hours: 215-590-1000, ask for Orthopedic Resident
Follow-up
  • Orthopedic APP contacts family within 72 hrs of discharge
  • Return to Orthopedics Clinic in approximately 6 wks
